The Charm Townhouse in Tel Aviv by MGA | Meirav Galan Architect

Located in the historic Neve Tzedek neighborhood of Tel Aviv, The Charm Townhouse was designed by MGA | Meirav Galan Architect in collaboration with Urbany | Shai Fogel Architect, as an addition to a house built at the beginning of the last century. Spanning 320 square meters (approx. 3444 square feet) over three floors plus a basement, the townhouse kept a lot of the historic details of the area, as required by the municipality, while bringing modern elements the family needed. On the front facade, a modern, full height entryway was created, while original window features were preserved to respect the neighborhood and the surrounding homes.

In contrast with the front, the back and side facades are all modern as they’re fairly hidden from the street. Double height “Pacman” shutters were custom made for the back for added privacy and protection from the sun.

The front entry leads to a short flight of stairs that steers you to the open living space, which includes a living room, kitchen, and dining room.

The palette was kept fairly neutral with the addition of calm colors, like purples and greens. Lindsay Bentis of Thread Art + Design, who handled the interior, used lots of warm walnut wood and natural stone which pairs perfectly with the modern furnishings.

The stairwell is detached from the walls with wrapping vertical circulation that connects all floors. Large windows on each floor bring daylight in which easily passes through the open risers.

The first floor includes two kids’ bedrooms, a bathroom, and a master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom.

The top attic floor houses a guest bedroom with a rooftop balcony that includes views of the sea.
